Street Vendor festival begins in Pondicherry

Puducherry government organized a Street Vendor Festival and an exhibition of products manufactured by women self-help groups to showcase the achievements of the financial inclusion and microcredit sector.

According to the information, the Street Vendor Festival is being jointly organized by the following departments. The festival began yesterday (August 30) and will continue until tomorrow (September 1) at Gandhi Thidal, Beach Road, Puducherry..

Who inaugurated the Street Vendor festival?

Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan inaugurated the street Vendor food festival and exhibition. Apart from the inauguration, he also presented the ‘Performance Recognition for Financial Inclusion and Street Vendors Empowerment’ (PRAISE) awards.

Addressing the program, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said that a total of 2,447 registered roadside vendors in Puducherry have benefited from this scheme of the Prime Minister. Apart from this, the CM also reported that the per capita income of Puducherry has increased to Rs 2.75 lakh, due to Puducherry’s excellence in large and small traders, industry, and education.

According to a report, the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission, implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, is improving the livelihoods of the urban poor across the Union Territory by providing training and gainful self-employment and wage employment opportunities.

Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission was launched in 2020 with the objective of providing working capital loans through bank credit linkage to street vendors whose livelihoods have been adversely affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For your information, let us tell you that the objectives of this scheme include providing working capital loan assistance of up to Rs 10,000 as the first installment, Rs 20,000 as the second installment and Rs 50,000 as the third installment to the beneficiaries. An interest subsidy of 7% is also provided on timely repayment of the loan.
