Moreover, the festival often falls on the Trayodashi Tithi of Krishna Palsh in the month of Kartik. Dhanteras is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor across the nation. Similar to the Deepavali, Dhanteras is also a combination of two words. First Dhan represents wealth and the second Teras represents the thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha.

Every year, Hindus celebrate this festival on the thirteenth lunar day of the Krishna Paksha of the Hindu calendar of KarticK. This year, Dhanteras will celebrate on October 29, 2024, and holds immense cultural and religious importance in Hinduism.

Why is Dhanteras celebrated?

Dhanteras is a festival of spiritual victory and the fice-day-long Diwali celebration begins with Dhaaateras and ends with Bhai Dooj. The major festival is for buying gold and silver jewellery, utensils, and even electronics in a bid to welcome Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera – both symbolizing wealth and prosperity in Hindu myth- to their residences.

On this best day, devote worship to three forms of Goddess Lakshmi such as Goddess Maha Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswati, and Goddess Maha Kali.

Dhanteras 2024: History

Hindu myth believes that on the auspicious day of Dhanters, Goddess Durga and Lord Kubera appeared from the ocean during the Sager Manthan. Gods as well as Demons were traveling through the ocean during the Sagar Manthan with Amrit and Lord Dhanvantari emerged from the ocean.

Therefore, Goddess Durga and Lord Kubera were worshiped on this auspicious day. In the Hindu myth, it is believed that observing the fast of the Dhanteras brings wealth and prosperity to people’s lives.
