Navratri

Navratri in 2024 started on Tuesday, October 03, and will end on Saturday, October 12. This major Hindu festival is a nine-day celebration to worship nine forms of Goddes Durga. Navratri is divided into three parts:

  • First three days: Goddess Durga
  • Next three days: Goddess Lakshmi
  • Last three days: Goddess Saraswati

Durga Puja:

Durga Puja is a five-day major Hindu festival. devices mainly celebrate in eastern India, particularly in West Bengal. It marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon king Mahishasura, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.

Duration of the festivals

Navratri celebration lasts for nine days, while Durga Puja is celebrated over five days during autumn. Plus, Navratri is celebrated twice a year, once in spring ( Chaitra Navratri) and again in autumn (Sharad Navratri). On the other hand, Durga Puja coincides with the last phase of Sharad Navratri.

Worship

Devotes worship to all nine forms of Goddess Durga alongside Goddes Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati during Navratri. Moreover, devotees worship nine forms on special days offer prayers, and perform rituals.

Navratri is celebrated all over India. But it is most prominent in northern and western regions like Gujarat and Rajasthan as well as parts of Madhya Pradesh. It is observed by fasting, devotional songs, and lively dance performances.
