Prime Minister’s Message for the First International Solar Festival
The Prime Minister referred to the Vedas, composed thousands of years ago, and mentioned one of the most popular mantras in the Vedas about the Sun. Even today, millions of Indians chant it every day, he said.
As you know, most regions also celebrate festivals related to the Sun. Thus, this International Solar Festival brings the whole world together to celebrate the influence of the Sun. It will also help us to build a better planet.
In his message on the occasion, the Prime Minister highlighted India’s significant progress in the field of green energy in the last decade. He added, “Our solar energy capacity has increased 32-fold in the last 10 years. This speed and scale will also help us achieve five hundred (500) gigawatt non-fossil capacity by 2030.”
Further, he highlighted that India’s progress in the solar sector stems from a clear vision focused on awareness, availability, and affordability. The PM explained how India has boosted domestic manufacturing to raise awareness about sustainable energy sources and implemented specific schemes to make solar options more affordable.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the development of the International Solar Alliance and said that 19 more countries are ratifying the framework contract to attain full membership.
The Prime Minister also shared information about recent policy initiatives, including the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. ” We are investing Rupees 750 billion in this scheme. Our target is to help 10 million households to install their own rooftop solar panels,” he said.
