International Days

We habitually celebrate many days that have social, international, economic, commemorative, or celebratory significance. But, now in this article, we will talk about what is International Days, and here we will see which day is celebrated on which date or month.

What are International Days?

International days are occasions to introduce, educate, and raise awareness of issues of concern to the general public, mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and celebrate and strengthen humanity.

More importantly, the general awareness section has a major portion related to the topic of important International days and events. Moreover, each International Day provides the opportunity for many artists to organize activities related to the theme of that day.

There is an international day dedicated to almost every global issue. There are some we have all heard of, such as International Women’s Day. And there are many more. Others, such as International Mother Language Day, and World AIDS Day, are less well-known.

Why we celebrate International Days:

For your information, let us tell you that since its establishment in 1945, the United Nations has set aside about 200 days related to its main work areas like peace, development, human rights, justice, and humanitarian action.

Additionally, each day highlights global problems such as the depletion of water resources and remembers unimaginable tragedies such as the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, and more. On the other hand, these days also celebrate human achievements, from the important role of rural women in society to scientific contributions that have changed the lives of countless people.

Who decides on international days?

Any UN Member State can submit a new International Day, which is voted on by the General Assembly. Naturally, distinct UN agencies take the lead on individual International Day. Agencies use their expertise to identify the focus of the day, spread awareness, and coordinate among partners.
