Indian Railways to introduce 6000 festival special trains

October 2024 is the month of major Indian festivals, such as Durga Puja, Diwali, Chhath Puja, and more. To maintain the October festival rush, Indian Railways has announced the introduction of around 6000 special trains. These new trains will fulfill the demand for travel during these major Indian festivals.

Every year, millions of people visit their homes to celebrate these festivals with their families. It leads to a huge rush in the need for transportation, so, that Indian Railways has dedicated to launching festival special trains to serve over one crore passengers during this festival season.

Indian Railways to introduce 6000 festival special trains

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishanaw said that Indian Railways plans to enhance the travel experience. He mentioned in his X account that the Indian Railways has announced 5,900 special trains in 2024-25 during Durga Puja, Deepavali, and Chhath Puja. Last year, they announced the 4480 special trains during the festival period.

The minister also said that the number of general coaches will be increased for 108 regular trains on popular routes, alongside the introduction of these special trains. He further added that these trains will deliver benefits to passengers wit the extra trains and coaches facilitating the movement of over 10 million travelers.

As per the report, Indian railways will offer an additional 12,500 coaches for Diwali and Chhath Puja, ensuring a comfortable and accessible journey.

Some of the most sought-after routes during these festivals are mainly routes towards states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal as these destinations are the epicenter of the festivities.

• Durga Puja will begin on October 6
• Diwali on November 1
• Chhath Puja on November 7.
